Marin GETALDIĆ (lat. Marinus Ghetaldus, Getalda) physicist, mathematician, (Dubrovnik, 1568 – Dubrovnik, 1626). He gained primary education by the Franciscans. From 1595 to 1601 he lived in Germany, England, Belgium, Rome, Paris and Padua, where he came into contact with Galileo. Having fled from Rome, he returned to Dubrovnik where he held various government jobs. In particular he was interested in optical instruments.
